Cancer Families Face Financial Hardships

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the emotional and financial effects can be overwhelming for a family. One of the parents will usually have to leave their job to provide full- time care to their child. Once this occurs, the financial impact can be devastating, particularly here in Hawaii where so many households are already living paycheck to paycheck. Added to the loss of income will be the mounting out of pocket medical expenses for treatment, medication, tests, frequent hospitalizations, and other unanticipated expenses. Without the help of HCCF Financial Assistance program my family would be struggling just to have basic needs to live. We are so grateful for HCCF and all the services they provide. –Kalei A.
