Donna Witsell – New Executive Director

Donna is the newly appointed Executive Director of Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation (HCCF). She is responsible for the day-to-day operations and overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of HCCF. Prior to HCCF, Donna dedicated nearly 2 decades of her nonprofit career specifically to programs and services that assist seriously ill children and their families. She is passionate about driving funding to the Financial Aid Program. The largest of HCCF’s programs, it provides direct financial support to families who have a child diagnosed with cancer. This program is designed to mitigate the often-crushing financial burden of out of pocket expenses not covered by insurance.

Her ties to the community are deep. Brought to Honolulu at age 5, she entered kindergarten at Koko Head Elementary School and went on to high school and college here in the islands. Her family moved to the Windward side when Donna was 9 and her passion for charitable work began as a young teenager volunteering at Pohai Nani and the YWCA. While in college, she volunteered at Hospice Hawaii and wrote her senior thesis about this experience. Caring for our seniors, youth and the terminally ill cemented her determination to enter nonprofit work. Touched personally by cancer, her precious mother-in-law (a highly successful realtor in Kailua) lost her own battle in 1991. She and her husband have raised two sons, and Donna recently became a proud grandmother.
